Stomach cancer symptoms can become more pronounced as the disease progresses. Being aware of these advanced signs can help individuals seek appropriate medical care sooner, potentially improving their prognosis.

1. Severe Abdominal Pain
Pain in the upper abdomen that worsens over time is a common symptom in advanced stages of stomach cancer. This pain may radiate to the back or become persistent and interfere with daily activities. It often indicates that the cancer has grown beyond the stomach lining.

2. Difficulty Swallowing (Dysphagia)
If the tumor grows near the junction of the stomach and esophagus, it can cause difficulty swallowing. Patients may feel like food is getting stuck or experience discomfort when eating solid foods. As this symptom worsens, even liquids may become hard to swallow.

3. Blood in Stool or Vomit
Gastric bleeding may manifest as blood in the vomit, which can appear bright red or have a coffee-ground appearance. Dark, tarry stools indicate digested blood, signaling internal bleeding. These symptoms are serious and require immediate medical attention.

4. Severe Weight Loss and Muscle Wasting
Significant, unintentional weight loss, along with muscle wasting (cachexia), is a critical concern. This happens when cancer interferes with normal digestion and nutrient absorption, causing the body to break down muscle and fat for energy.

5. Swelling or Fluid Buildup in the Abdomen (Ascites)
Advanced stomach cancer can lead to the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, causing visible swelling and discomfort. Ascites may also make it difficult to breathe comfortably and can lead to feelings of fullness even after eating small amounts.

6. Jaundice
If the cancer spreads to the liver, jaundice may develop. This condition causes yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark urine, and pale stools. It indicates that the liver is not functioning properly and is often a sign that cancer has metastasized.

Advanced stomach cancer symptoms are more severe and impact daily life significantly. If you or a loved one experiences these signs, seek immediate medical evaluation. While these symptoms can be caused by other conditions, ruling out stomach cancer early is vital for appropriate care.
